Description: Built in 1927 the Veterans Memorial building is an icon of the Cedar Rapids skyline - the building or "coliseum" was constructed to serve the community in honor of all veterans. It is home to a Grant Wood designed memorial window holding more than 8,000 individual pieces of hand blown stained glass. The building features a rendition of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier atop an eight story tower and a gold plated "eternal flame" at the very top. Near future plans include a museum gallery space devoted to the history of local veterans, organizations and rotating exhibits. Additional veteran programming and services for disabled veterans will include a fitness center and cultural program entitled “The Great Books Foundation". An auditorium, ballroom and conference meeting space will be available for rent. Class A commercial office space will also be available for lease to be completed late 2013.
